The following two readings reported very opposite mortality outcomes following the implementation of commercially sold CPOE Systems. Han and colleagues (2005) examined factors that have contributed to the unexpected increase in mortality whereas Longhurst and colleagues (2010) examined factors that have contributed to a decrease in hospital-wide mortality rate. In what ways are the findings interrelated and what are the take away message(s) we need to consider if you are involved in a CPOE implementation?
