Description

Read Chapters 1-6 from Introduction to Game Design, Prototyping, and Development.

Write an essay on your favorite games using terms described in the Game Design lecture and Chapters 1-6.

Note that Chapters 7-13 are also useful but the most important points will be touched on in class lecture to avoid excessive reading.

Grading will be based on how the techniques in Chapters 1-6 and lecture are applied.  Ideas for questions to answer include, but are not limited to, the following:

What genre does the game fall into?  Crossover between genres?

What attracted you to play the game in the first place?

How were the controls introduced?

  • Typical controls for the genre?
  • What were player objectives and what was interesting about them to you?
  • Describe any “aha” moments where a new technique was introduced.

What kept you coming back to the game?

  • Have you returned to playing the game after a long interval?  Why or why not?
  • What emotions did you feel during the game, both positive and negative?
  • What could be improved about the game?
