Instructional Design Models

Purpose:

Instructional design models are tools to use when framing the design of instruction. As an instructional designer, you will choose an instructional design model or a blend of instructional design models to guide the process. There are many instructional design models, so understanding the differences and similarities between them is important.

Scenario:

You are interviewing to join a team to design a unit of instruction for learners that will solve a problem. You are tasked with recommending an instructional design model to use during the instructional design process. You will hone your expertise by reading Chapter 4 in the Hodell text.

You will be applying newly gained knowledge and skills to recommend an instructional design model or a blend of models in this assignment. 

Directions:

You may use the Unit 1 Assignment template as a basis for this assignment.

You will write a 4-page persuasive essay recommending an instructional design model or blend of models. The page count does not include the title and reference page. See the Writing Center for information on how to write a persuasive essay

Reflect upon key takeaways from the required readings and synthesize these into your persuasive essay.

State the topic of the essay in the form of a short thesis statement regarding instructional design models.

Name three instructional design models or blends of models that are of interest to you.

Summarize the internal organization structure of the aforementioned three instructional design models.

Compare the advantages of the three instructional design models.

Compare the disadvantages of the three instructional design models.

Summarize the results of the comparisons.

Give your opinion: should an instructional designer use only one instructional design model or a blend of models?

Appeal to the reader’s reason by citing textual evidence or expert opinion.
